Henry Douglas

Douglas cuts a severe figure, his stern facial structure framed by glasses and set off by the colonel's uniform of Central City's Military Police. The record notes little else about his looks, keeping the focus on his rank and rigid bearing.

Methodical and coldly logical, Douglas builds his case brick by brick rather than through open hostility. He presses each piece of evidence hard and does not shrink from rebuking a superior officer, chiding Mustang for letting private feelings push him to extremes.

The 2009 series adds a scene expanding the manga plot: Douglas interrogates Maria Ross, producing the bullet that killed Hughes and noting it matches her ammunition, then asking why she filed a fresh requisition. Ross explains she fired a round shielding Alphonse at Laboratory 5, but with the ruined, unmanned facility now rubble there is no way to recover proof. He counters that witnesses placed her leaving the murder scene; she insists she was off duty visiting her parents, whose word cannot stand as a credible alibi.

After Mustang appears to reduce Ross to a charred skeleton, Douglas resurfaces to scold the Flame Alchemist, observing that the corpse is too damaged for its identity to be confirmed. His final appearance comes in the manga's thirty-fifth chapter, when Mustang and Hawkeye feed the Military Police false leads on Scar to help the Elrics draw out the Homunculi. Whether he was later arrested as a conspirator is left open.
