Henschel

Henschel presents as a rank-and-file officer of Amestris's State Military, a Second Lieutenant posted to the frozen northern stronghold of Fort Briggs. Like the rest of that garrison he answers to Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong and carries standard-issue firearms.

What defines Henschel is loyalty paired with real concern for the men beside him. He pushes back against sealing the breached tunnel because comrades are still trapped inside, and he lights up with relief when survivors turn up amid the wreckage Pride leaves behind. He shares the quiet Briggs confidence that Central's incoming officials have no clue what the northern soldiers can do.

Henschel's role begins after the homunculus Sloth blunders into Briggs. When Lt. General Raven calls for the breached tunnel to be sealed, Henschel objects, unwilling to abandon the soldiers still down inside. Armstrong appears to brush him off in public, then privately lets him know that Edward Elric has secretly opened a second way in. He joins Captain Buccaneer's party going down the tunnel and is thrilled when they pull survivors out of the carnage Pride caused. Once Armstrong transfers to Central Command, he and Buccaneer trade thoughts on the regime change ahead. The Briggs force is later slipped into the capital by routing through the Armstrong family estate, and Henschel fights hard in the Promised Day coup. Come Chapter 107, he takes charge of the remaining troops until Major Alex Louis Armstrong arrives, ordering everyone to fire on Father's new form and hauling Edward and Izumi Curtis out of death's reach.
