Appearance

Paninya is a teenager who gets around on two automail legs, the pair concealing tools fit for a thief: one hides a carbon blade while the other packs a small carbine. In the 2003 anime she carries an additional automail arm, the product of a different injury in that version. Agile and quick on her feet, she leans on acrobatic reflexes to twist out of trouble.

Personality

When first encountered, Paninya lives by her light fingers, cheerful and cocky enough to lead a State Alchemist on a merry chase. Beneath the mischief runs deep gratitude toward the man who saved her and a fierce loyalty once it is won, along with a surprisingly squeamish streak, since she admits she cannot stand the sight of blood. Watching Winry's determination up close inspires her to swear off theft and turn her talents toward honest work.

History

Paninya lost both legs, and her parents, in a childhood train wreck, after which the gruff mechanic Dominic took her in like a daughter and built her replacement limbs. She bursts into the Elrics' story by lifting Edward's silver State Alchemist watch and nearly outrunning him through Rush Valley, only to be caught at last by Winry Rockbell, who forces her to hand it back and then befriends her. Paninya leads the group to Dominic's remote workshop, where Winry begs unsuccessfully for an apprenticeship, and when Dominic's daughter-in-law Satella goes into labor, it is Paninya who helps deliver the baby despite her horror of blood.

Reformed and working to aid others around town, she reappears on the Elrics' return trip and leaps in to help Alphonse hold off Fu, the retainer of Prince Ling of Xing. Like much of Amestris she falls victim to Father's nationwide transmutation circle, and thanks to Van Hohenheim's countermeasure she is brought back. She turns up years later still friends with Garfiel, appearing in the Elric family photograph in the 2009 anime.
