Sig Curtis

Sig is a huge, physically imposing man whose scowling face and a scar near his left eye make him look far more menacing than he is. He speaks little and carries a reserved air, but what truly stands out is his enormous, sculpted musculature, a physique impressive enough to rival that of Alex Louis Armstrong. In his youth he bore a notable resemblance to King Bradley.

For all his forbidding looks, Sig is a warm and decent man who quietly regrets how off-putting his face can be. He is fiercely devoted to Izumi, forever fretting over her poor health, rushing to shield her from any perceived threat, and turning jealous when she praises other men, and he blames himself for not noticing sooner that she had attempted human transmutation. He takes real pride in his build, famously bonding with Alex Armstrong over their mutual physiques in what Mason dubs a friendship forged from muscle. His reflexes hint at combat training as well, since he can pluck a knife his wife casually throws from the air between two fingers.

Sig met Izumi in the country's northern reaches when she was eighteen, and the two fell for each other at once. After they married she became pregnant, but the baby died in childbirth, and her desperate attempt to bring it back cost her reproductive organs to the Truth, leaving her chronically ill and the couple unable to have children. When Izumi later takes on the Elric brothers as students, Sig serves as her calmer counterweight, keeping the reckless boys from harm and welcoming them into the Dublith home.

His muscle becomes a recurring source of both comedy and rescue. He accompanies Izumi to Devil's Nest and pummels the chimeras there, and he punches Van Hohenheim after mistaking the man's rearranging of Izumi's damaged organs for an attack. Learning of the coming Promised Day, the Curtises head north to relay warnings through a trusted network reaching Roy Mustang. In the finale Sig throws himself into the fight against the government, aiding the Briggs forces, hurling the homunculus Sloth into a wall, and battling it alongside Alex before being reunited with Izumi and moved to tears at the sight of Alphonse restored. His part in the 2003 anime is smaller, touching on Wrath and, in Conqueror of Shamballa, breaking the news of Izumi's death to Winry.
