Those Who Lurk Underground

At Central Command, Mustang tries to see the Führer but learns from his secretary that King Bradley has gone south on an inspection, which is in fact the assault on the Devil's Nest, escorted by Major Armstrong and troops. As Greed decides to flee the fight with Ed and the ailing Izumi, Bradley intercepts him and severs his right hand mid-transmutation, stunning Greed into demanding to know who the Führer truly is. Nearby, Armstrong and the ox-chimera Roa clash to a standstill until Roa reveals himself as a former comrade from the Ishvalan war; Dolcetto then cuts down attacking soldiers and screens their retreat with steam.

Bradley overpowers Greed and impales his neck with both swords, explaining that against the Ultimate Shield he wields an Ultimate Eye that carried him through countless battles. His eyepatch falls away to reveal an Ouroboros mark, marking him too as a homunculus. As he keeps killing Greed to drain his stone, Roa and Dolcetto return to sacrifice themselves so Al can carry Martel to safety, only for Bradley to slice both apart. Greed intervenes to defend his people before being pinned again, and when Martel seizes control of Al's body to strangle the Führer, Bradley drives a blade through the armor at just the right angle and kills her. Her spilled blood reacts with Al's blood rune, restoring his memories of the day he was taken to the Gate.

In a hidden chamber beneath Central, Bradley reports to Lust, Gluttony, and Envy that Al and Izumi would make fitting sacrifices to come. Greed, held prisoner, learns Bradley is Wrath, a human-based homunculus who ages, and Father confronts him over his betrayal. Since Greed will never return willingly, Father dumps him into molten lava to reclaim the stone within him. Back on the surface, Bradley reunites with his son Selim, who dreams of becoming a State Alchemist like Ed.

The title card bears the Ouroboros symbol, and this is the only episode to feature all seven homunculi at once. Bradley's earlier woundings of Roa and Dolcetto inside the building are cut. It was the first entry rated TV-MA on American broadcast and closes out the first season.
