Summary

A blast tears through the upper story of a Central building as Ling Yao flees with Lan Fan draped over his shoulder, watched by King Bradley. The Fuhrer laments that his aging body can no longer keep pace with his keen vision, then rejoins Gluttony to descend and resume the chase.

Nearby, Winry still trains her pistol on Scar at close range while Ed and Al plead with her to lower it and get clear. As the standoff threatens to snap, Edward throws himself between the two, and Alphonse barrels in to knock Scar aside. While Al keeps the Ishvalan occupied, Ed talks Winry into surrendering the weapon and hands her to the military police, entrusting them to escort her safely to Central.

Told that the operation is unfolding as planned, Roy dispatches a disguised Riza Hawkeye to aid the youngsters in bagging their homunculus. Ling, meanwhile, finds Gluttony blocking the path ahead while Bradley closes from behind. Judging capture inevitable, the Fuhrer orders Gluttony back to deal with Scar, the very errand that first drew them out. Sensing that her survival gravely endangers the prince who refuses to abandon her, Lan Fan draws a knife and steels herself to remove the burden she has become.

Al holds his own against Scar until Ed returns to help, and their fight is broken when Gluttony suddenly bursts in to attack Scar. Puzzled that Ling is not managing the homunculus, the brothers get their answer as the prince erupts from the sewers. Before anyone can react, Ling rams a bulky explosive charge into Gluttony's open gullet, blowing the head apart; Ed transmutes a steel cable that Ling uses to bind the homunculus in a tightly compressed form before it can heal. Elsewhere, Bradley closes on the figure he assumes is Lan Fan, only to find her severed arm lashed to a stray dog, while the girl herself crawls through the same sewers Ling used, back toward the battle.
