Ishikawa

A thick, full beard and a permanently disheveled crop of brown hair mark Ishikawa out, and he stands as the oldest of Section 9's field agents. He measures roughly 180 centimeters, his eyes the same brown as his hair.

Relaxed to the point of seeming the unit's most unhurried member, Ishikawa is best known for delivering lengthy, tangled explanations that bring both his teammates and the audience up to speed on unfolding events. Away from the work he keeps a fondness for a stiff drink, lights the occasional cigarette or cigar when tension runs high, and counts himself a devotee of American superhero comics.

Before Section 9, Ishikawa soldiered in South America alongside Kusanagi and Batou as part of Japan's UN contingent in the Ground Self-Defense Forces, and he was among the earliest members drawn into the new unit, familiar enough with the Major to know her habits and dislikes. Off duty he runs a pachinko parlor that bears his own name, now and then commandeering his customers' cyberbrains to crunch large volumes of data.

His cybernetic enhancement is thought to be minimal, on a level with Togusa and Saito, which shows in a body less durable than those of his colleagues. He rarely takes the field in a fighting role, though he once hefted a shoulder-mounted cannon to cripple an armored vehicle. That relative fragility left him easily seized by Umibozu commandos during the first season and slow to heal after a suicide bombing wounded him aboard a Section 9 aircraft, his bandaged arm a quiet contrast to Batou's swift recovery.
