Proto

Proto is an artificial being, a bioroid marked out by pale white hair above brown eyes. His prototype origin makes him a singular presence on the roster, the only member of his kind serving at Section 9.

Reliability is Proto's defining quality. Section 9 trusts the prototype enough to expand him steadily from a technician into Aramaki's driver and protector, and eventually into an armed field officer, a progression that speaks to how dependable and capable the unit judges him to be.

Proto joins Section 9 during 2nd GIG and also features in the manga Human-Error Processor. He begins as the sole prototype bioroid on the team and the technician charged with maintaining the Tachikoma, then takes on further work as Aramaki's chauffeur and apparent bodyguard. His pivotal moment comes in the Dejima crisis, when he helps Aramaki rescue Prime Minister Yoko Kayabuki, who has been stripped of office and confined to her home on a fabricated treason charge amid an unfolding coup.

Reaching the net, Proto links with the Tachikoma units and pulls building schematics, up-to-date details of the Dejima operation, and the premier's whereabouts before an attack barrier shuts him down. He appears once more in Solid State Society, dressed in Section 9's black uniform and carrying a sidearm, a sign that he now serves as a field operative.
