Beastmen

No two Beastmen need look alike. As blends of human and animal genetic material they span an enormous range of forms, from figures who could walk among people unnoticed to creatures with nothing human left in their silhouette.

Their biology carries deliberate limits. Beastmen produce no Spiral Power, which keeps them invisible to the Human Extermination System planted by the Anti-Spiral, and they are unable to reproduce. Without periodic coma-like sleep their cells break down, a weakness absent only in engineered exceptions such as the immortal body granted to Viral. Lacking Spiral Power, they run their Gunmen on solar batteries, which grounds them after dark unless an oversized machine like the Dekabutsu or the hot spring Gunmen feeds power to the smaller units.

Beastmen regard humans with open disdain. Ruling the surface under the Spiral King convinces them of their own superiority, and their standing orders reinforce it: any human who reaches open air is to be killed. Their extermination force is organized into four divisions, each answering to one of the Supreme Generals.

The Beastmen exist to enforce Lordgenome's order, and his death unravels them. The armies disband and their Gunmen are scrapped wholesale. Many Beastmen inside Teppelin survive the city's collapse, and Nia Teppelin persuades them to make peace with the victorious humans; they blend into the society of Kamina City with no prejudice attached. Beyond the frontier the story goes differently, as liberated warlords keep raiding human settlements and drawing the New Government into recurring battles. Seven years after Teppelin's fall, hardly any of these holdouts remain, most having been hunted down by Grapearl squadrons.
