Kittan Bachika

Kittan cuts an imposing figure, tall and heavily muscled, topped with blond hair that spikes out in every direction. Through the first arc he dresses entirely in black: sleeveless shirt, pants, and shoes. Seven years later the silhouette stays but the palette shifts, his new outfit trading black for a deep blue set off by red and gold details.

Cockiness defines Kittan from his first scene. He and Kamina share so much temperament that a friendly rivalry springs up almost on contact, and after Kamina falls, Kittan appoints himself the team's new leader despite nobody else agreeing. The swagger sits on top of real substance: he is ferociously protective of his sisters, erupting when he learns Rossiu wired Kinon into a bomb, and honest enough to hand command to Simon the moment Simon pulls out of his grief. At the end he refuses sentiment outright, vowing not to go out on showy parting lines, and heads to his death cracking a joke about his own selfishness.

Kittan first appears leading the Black Siblings, eldest of the four, and promptly mistakes Kamina for a Beastman until the truth about Gurren's pilot comes out. The two groups fight off a sixteen-faced enemy Gunman together before parting ways; his sisters attach themselves to Team Gurren soon after, while Kittan strikes out on his own. He returns during the war against Thymilph at the controls of a captured machine of his own, King Kittan, arriving among the flood of Kamina-inspired rebels whose gathering gives birth to Team Dai-Gurren. When Kamina dies, Kittan claims the leadership on his own authority and holds it until Simon climbs out of his depression, then hands command over without a fight.

Peace makes him Chief of Kamina City's Legal Affairs Bureau. He quits on the spot after discovering Rossiu means to evacuate a sliver of humanity aboard the Arc-Gurren and abandon the rest to die beneath the falling moon. Before storming out he demands the Core Drill confiscated from Simon and races off in his Gunman to return it to its owner. When the crisis reaches the streets, he covers his family's escape himself, working a shotgun loaded with Spiral Shells against the attacking Mugann.

His last battle comes at the Death Spiral Machine, whose compressed sea of space traps the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren. With the ship's weapons useless against the machine's shield, Kittan volunteers to break through personally, stealing a kiss from Yoko on the way out and apologizing for the liberty. The Space King Kittan shatters the shield but is crushed flat by the sea's gravity, and the team believes him dead. Moments later the original King Kittan bursts free of the wreck, gripping a drill snapped off Gurren Lagann. Spiral Power finally blazes awake in him; he fuses the drill to his machine's arm and performs his own rendition of Kamina's signature attack, a King Kittan Giga Drill Break that annihilates the Death Spiral Machine. The blast consumes him even as it frees the fleet, his final words a quiet nod of respect toward the power of the spiral. Simon honors the sacrifice by reshaping the freed flagship into Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann. The epilogue raises a sword in Kittan's memory beside those of the team's other dead.
