Leeron Littner

Flamboyance is Leeron's opening move. Openly and theatrically gay, he pushes the campness to absurd heights purely to fluster people, and the series mines the act for comedy. None of it dulls his judgment; he is rational to the core and drops the theatrics the instant a situation turns serious.

Loyalty runs just as deep. Apart from Kamina, he is the only adult on the team who never doubts Simon, and when Simon storms back from grief in a comeback that stuns everyone else, Leeron simply smiles as though the outcome were never in question.

Leeron begins as Littner's resident mechanic, patching up and scavenging whatever Gunmen his village comes across. His first contribution to the story is fixing Lagann for Simon, and when Kamina, Yoko, and Simon set off to fight the Beastmen, he volunteers to travel with them as their engineer. Along the way he becomes the team's explainer, briefing everyone on Gurren, on Lagann, and on each machine captured during their travels.

He keeps clear of combat as a rule, feeding the pilots tactical support over the communications systems while others do the fighting, and breaks that rule exactly once, joining the final campaign against the Anti-Spirals. Like Rossiu, he shows a sharp nose for trouble, often prepared in advance for the misfortunes that find the team, and unlike the Spiral King he holds total faith in Team Dai-Gurren's ability to win.

Leeron's weapon is his brain. Lordgenome himself names him the brightest human in the setting, and the label fits: he builds and reshapes enormous machinery into new configurations, anticipates problems before they land, and supplies the science behind Team Dai-Gurren's breakthroughs while educating the cast on the universe's stranger phenomena. By his own account, Spiral Power explains humanity's absurd learning curve, a species that went from barely literate to programming interstellar craft within seven years.
