Makken Jokin

Two looks are recorded for Makken, his Beastmen War appearance and the design he carries into the Anti-Spiral conflict, fitting for a man present through both wars yet rarely in frame for either.

Silence defines him. Makken counts among the team's important members while hardly ever speaking, and the show's first half grants him almost no screen time at all. What the story does establish is devotion: to Leyte, whom he marries, to their three children, and to the fight itself, which ultimately costs him everything.

Makken pilots Mo-Shogun through the Beastmen War as one of Team Dai-Gurren's quiet regulars. Seven years later, he and Leyte are raising three children when the Anti-Spiral conflict erupts, and in the first engagement fought in deep space he throws himself in the path of an enormous enemy missile bound for the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren, dying to stop it. The epilogue shows a memorial shaped like a sword raised in his honor beside those of Kamina and the team's other fallen.

The film The Lights in the Sky are Stars rewrites his fate: there he lives through the battle, Kittan being that universe's only casualty, and joins the climax by forming Tengen Toppa Mo-Shogun. A casting joke hides in his credits as well; Kamina's voice actor plays him under the alias Reo Kaminaga, which in hiragana anagrams to a phrase meaning I am Kamina.
