Rossiu Adai

Kamina needed one look at Rossiu to coin the nickname Forehead Boy; the outsized brow atop his melon-shaped head is his most commented-on feature. In Part 1 he gathers his black hair into a ponytail, a single bang framing the right of his face beneath thick dark eyebrows, and dresses in Adai's modest religious garb: a high-collared white poncho marked with two blue rectangles, loose blue-white trousers, and tan boots. A flat, sullen expression rarely leaves him.

Part 2 trades the pilgrim's clothes for authority: a long white coat reaching nearly to his ankles, white trousers and boots, orange shoulder guards with a darker stripe down the left one, and twin orange stars at his chest. The ponytail has grown longer, the forehead finally fits the man, and his face gives away even less than before, save for a faint smirk when he exercises the power he has seized.

The boy from Adai is devout, humble, and instinctively decent. He treats strangers kindly, asks the scantily dressed Yoko to cover herself, and nearly comes to blows defending his village's holy idol when Kamina dismisses it as an ordinary Gunman. The village priest is the nearest thing he has to a father, and aboard the team he becomes an older brother to Gimmy and Darry.

Power hollows that boy out. As Chief Advisor he turns cold and underhanded, barring citizens from returning underground so the government can track population figures, and when the millionth human triggers the Anti-Spiral assault he deflects public fury by jailing Simon and taking his place. His arithmetic of sacrifice grows grim enough to call Kamina's death a good outcome, and grimmer still once Leeron's projections show the surface uninhabitable for a year: he resolves to abandon most of humanity outright. He genuinely believes all of it serves mankind's survival, an irony that leaves him standing where Lordgenome once stood. Shame nearly kills him after the crisis passes, but Simon redirects that guilt into resolve, and twenty years later he is still honoring the promise, spreading peace across the galaxy.

Adai's population law shapes Rossiu's childhood: the village can feed only fifty people, and his mother was among those exiled to die on the surface to hold the count. When Kamina, Simon, and Yoko arrive, he distrusts them on sight, refusing to believe visitors could come from what his faith calls the realm of the gods. The chief's battle in the village's totem Gunman exposes the religion as invented, and Rossiu departs with Gimmy and Darry to join the team. After Kamina dies he takes over Gurren's cockpit, and though Simon's breakdown makes the pairing miserable, he proves genuinely capable, threading through massed missile fire in the clash with Cytomander's Dai-Ganten. In the Teppelin throne room a botched capture attempt tears Gurren away from Lagann, leaving him a spectator while Simon and Lordgenome settle the war.

Seven years later he stands second in command of the new government, quietly running the project that rebuilds Lordgenome as a Biocomputer to mine the dead king's memories. When Nia's broadcast ignites public revolt, he makes Simon the scapegoat, imprisons him, and signs his death sentence, then grieves over the decision where only Kinon can see. His evacuation plan splits the population between the underground and the excavated Arc-Gurren, until Leeron demonstrates that nothing on or below the surface will outlast the moon's impact; Rossiu reloads the ship with livestock and writes off everyone left behind. The attack comes early, the ark launches half full, and a waiting Mugann ambush nearly finishes it before Simon, the man he condemned, arrives to save the ship. As the moon closes in he orders Gimmy and Darry to pull the Arc-Gurren Lagann back, calling it his final order; only Nia's reversion spares the planet.

The weight breaks him. A week after the crisis he leaves a farewell message and travels home to Adai to shoot himself, but Kinon discovers the note and Gurren Lagann tears across space to reach him. Her voice makes his trigger finger hesitate; Simon's punch, delivered with the same encouragement Kamina once gave him, does the rest. Restored, Rossiu governs Kamina City with Kinon and Guinble's help while the fleet sails for the Anti-Spiral homeworld, and he serves as priest at Simon and Nia's wedding. The epilogue finds him commander-in-chief, addressed as President by Leeron, still insisting Simon could have achieved everything he did, and still wondering where his friend has wandered.
