Summary
Unable to accept that Nia would wander far from the capital, Adiane withdraws, only to learn from the Spiral King himself that his daughter has been discarded and her fate means nothing to him. Sworn to wipe out the humans and dispose of Nia, she brushes off the injured Viral, who blames himself for Thymilph's death and begs to come along; Adiane intends to avenge Thymilph alone.
On the Dai-Gurren, the crew watches its strange guest with suspicion. Kittan's attempt at an interrogation collapses when Nia fails to grasp words as basic as enemy, so he pushes Simon to pry information from her instead. Their conversation turns to Kamina. Simon explains that he could only ever fight because Kamina stood behind him, recalling how the two once survived a cave-in on Kamina's sheer refusal to quit, and admits he wants to become the man his brother was. Nia pushes back: Simon rescued her by his own hand, and leaning on someone gone does him no good. Yoko erupts at this, accusing Nia of trampling feelings she cannot understand, and walks away in tears while Nia resolves to learn more about them all.
Adiane soon returns demanding a parley with Nia. With the Dai-Gurren immobile and repairs needing time, Kittan agrees to hand her over, and Nia herself insists on going. Face to face, Adiane confirms the extermination order came from Nia's father and reveals the girl is no princess anymore. Simon, remembering the ravine of discarded boxes, sprints for the Lagann, but it refuses to start. Adiane readies Sayrune's claws and stinger, deaf to Nia's questions about why anyone should kill or die on the Spiral King's word. Simon abandons the machine and runs out on foot with the other Gunmen charging behind him, yet it is Yoko's rifle that knocks the stinger off course. When Leeron finally restores power, the Dai-Gurren itself punts Sayrune away, and Viral swoops in aboard the Enkidu to carry the protesting Adiane off the field, vowing to settle things with Gurren another day.
The crew celebrates Nia's defiance and warms to her at last. Simon, who tripped and never reached the fight, slips away limping. Nia brings dinner to his door that night and thanks him for running to her faster than anyone; he never answers, lying in bed and despairing that he can never be Kamina.
