All you Bastards, get fired up!!

In a playground at the edge of a thriving city, a young Lordgenome sits among gathered animals when an Anti-Spiral bombardment erases the skyline in a single blast. Picking through the ruins with a small armadillo at his side, the boy finds a giant metal face resting at the bottom of a crater: the first of the Laganns that Earth will soon turn against its attackers.

Grown into a commanding figure who strongly resembles the adult Simon, Lordgenome leads humanity's counteroffensive at the head of an army of Gunmen. His Lazengann carves through legions of enemy drones while massed Dai-Gun fleets vaporize wave after wave of Mugann and Ashtangas, yet every force destroyed is instantly replaced, grinding the war into a stalemate. The leader of the invasion then confronts Lordgenome atop his own battleship and reveals the reasoning behind the assault on Earth, the looming threat of the Spiral Nemesis. The revelation breaks him.

Consumed by despair, Lordgenome turns on his own side. Lazengann's mouthplate shatters as it cuts down its onetime comrades aboard the Cathedral Terra, and through the ship's smaller core Gunman, the Dekabutsu, he seizes the vessel outright. Reshaped into the colossal Cathedral Lazengann, it annihilates what remains of the human fleet and scours the planet itself. Dekabutsu then descends to the surface carrying capsules of animal-human hybrids; as these Beastmen wake, Lordgenome arms them with Gunmen and dispatches them to drive humanity underground. The fallen hero finally settles onto his throne in the new capital of Teppelin, resolved to protect the universe even at the cost of ruling Earth as a tyrant.

The Anti-Spiral bombardment devastates young Lordgenome's world, and he discovers the first Lagann in a crater. His counterattack with Laganns, Gunmen, and Dai-Gun fleets stalls against endless reinforcements. Once the invasion's leader reveals the Spiral Nemesis, Lordgenome massacres his comrades, converts the Cathedral Terra into Cathedral Lazengann, engineers the Beastmen, and forces the human race below the surface, founding his reign in Teppelin.

Alone among the Parallel Works shorts, this one never contradicts the anime, and it has come to be accepted as the series prequel; part of it opens Gurren-hen. The armadillo accompanying young Lordgenome foreshadows Guame, and a gorilla, a scorpion, and a bird among the playground animals nod to Thymilph, Adiane, and Cytomander, with Pikachu sneaking in as a cameo. The music is a track the anime reserved for its most epic battles.

Color carries much of the storytelling. Lordgenome's forces glow green until the Anti-Spiral's revelations, then shift to the red tied to his corrupted Spiral Power in the anime, while the video opens in orange tones and closes in blue, contrasting what the world was with what it becomes. The Gunmen of his army are styled after classic Super Robot machines, among them Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, the RX-78-2 Gundam, Gunbuster, and Evangelion, and the ships Cathedral Lazengann destroys reference vessels such as the White Base, the Arcadia, and the USS Enterprise.
