Overview

The Dai-Gundo is a Dai-Gun that Team Dai-Gurren meets during the struggle for Teppelin, standing in as Divine General Guame's flagship and, once the Gember is destroyed, his main way of getting around. A ground-based craft, it rides on a great many legs beneath its body and is topped by a dome-like upper surface. Its outer shell is remarkably tough, shrugging off a Dai-Gunten crashing down onto it without so much as a scratch.

Function

Twin cannons shaped like towers make up its armament, though it leans mostly on swarms of deployed Gunmen to press an attack. Thrusters ringing its dome can shove it upward or slam it back down, letting the fortress throw its own bulk around as a weapon. Its most dangerous trick is to pool its strength with Teppelin, spinning up a whirling storm of energy that ruins anything it touches while scrambling communications and navigation. The syllable rendered as earth in its name points to its role as a land unit.

Notable Users

Guame commands the Dai-Gundo. It reaches the field on the sixth day of the Teppelin battle after Cytomander's Dai-Gunten is already engaged, sending Gunmen to shell the Dai-Gurren from below. It survives the wreckage of the Dai-Gunten and stirs up its energy tornado, until Gurren Lagann drills beneath it, is stabilized when Guame tries to smash it back down, then reverses the fortress's spin, breaks its bond with Teppelin, and lances it through until it bursts. Humans later borrow its walking method for vehicles that literally run on legs.
