Gurren is the rebuilt Gunzar that Kamina captures and restyles into Team Gurren's flagship, crowned with the team logo and a giant version of his own shades. Supercharged by Simon and Lagann's Spiral Power, it becomes the torso of Gurren Lagann.
A reworked Gunzar, Gurren is the Gunmen that Kamina takes from the enemy and makes his own. Leeron rebuilds and restyles it using parts scavenged from the three hostile units downed in that opening fight, and Kamina brands the machine with Team Gurren's emblem plus a huge pair of sunglasses shaped after his own. Those shades come from the original swords, melted down so they can serve as either a cutting edge or a thrown boomerang in battle. Its name carries the sense of Crimson Lotus.
At standard Gunmen scale, Gurren can hold its own without ever linking to Simon's Lagann, and Kamina eventually grows skilled enough to face several foes at a time. Fused with Lagann, though, it gains that machine's gifts: it sprouts drills from nearly any surface and uses them to bond with larger craft such as Cytomander's bomber Gunmen or the Arc-Gurren, the former union granting it flight from that point on. The joined form can also knit its own battle damage back together, but the mending only holds while Lagann stays attached; the moment the two separate, every wound returns as though nothing had ever healed it.
Kamina pilots it through the early episodes. After his death the seat passes through many hands, including Rossiu across a long stretch, Kittan for a single outing, and Yoko briefly, with Kinon taking over later and Viral becoming its official pilot during the war on the Anti-Spirals. Darry sits in it by the epilogue. As a nod to the machine's meaning, a white Gunzar unit armed with pistols rather than blades appears during the battle of Teppelin.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

There are no women on Namek. That isn't an oversight, it's the biology. Why we handed Piccolo the one thing his own species rules out, and why it had to be trap soul....
Gurren stands out because Kamina rebuilds it from a captured Gunzar and marks it with Team Gurren's emblem and his own signature giant sunglasses, and once fused with Simon's Lagann it gains drill-based fusion powers, flight, and self-repair.
