Appearance

Numb Chandelier looms between rooftops on a cluster of twelve long lavender tentacles that hold up her bulk. Her mask takes after a jellyfish, ringed with three tiers of bumps up top and six dangling appendages below, its eye sockets cut into heart shapes above a lipless mouth crowded with long teeth. The Hollow hole sits high, at the point where her many limbs converge. Unusually, the mask flexes, letting its lower appendages move like extra tentacles.

Personality

Smug and cruel to the core, she is also a coward who never closes with her victims. Instead she seeds them from a distance and turns them into puppets, savoring the sight of friends butchering one another. She relishes watching lovely or lively girls suffer, and when Tatsuki Arisawa breaks up her game she idly dreams up grotesque ways to torture and kill the girl. For all her viciousness, a single wound sends her into a furious tantrum, exposing how little she can actually fight.

History

She is one of the many Hollows drawn to Karakura Town when Uryū Ishida scatters Hollow Bait to goad Ichigo Kurosaki into a duel. Reaching Karakura High School, she puppeteers a group of judo students into smashing the gym windows, which pulls Tatsuki Arisawa, Chizuru Honshō, and Orihime Inoue outside. Realizing Orihime can see her, she opens with Bulb Scatter, planting a seed in Chizuru that forces the girl to throttle Orihime, then floods the scene with more possessed classmates. Anyone struck by these seeds is slowly taken over, the control creeping from the hit limb through the whole body.

Tatsuki storms in and scatters the puppets, so Numb Chandelier has Chizuru pin her and drives a seed into Tatsuki as well. She gloats over her spreading control and toys with cruel punishments, but Tatsuki resists long enough to bite the tentacle stroking her face, which sends the Hollow into a rage and a fresh volley of seeds. As Tatsuki is turned against her, Orihime finds the will to protect the friend who once protected her. Her hairpins flare and split into six spinning blades, one of which shears off part of the Hollow's mask.

Those six lights are the Shun Shun Rikka, Orihime's newly awakened power. Rattled by the wound and by Orihime's defiance, Numb Chandelier fires again, only for the fairies to raise Santen Kesshun in defense and then loose Koten Zanshun, which slices the Hollow clean in two and ends her. Left nameless in the manga, she was eventually identified in the SOULs databook.
