Rikū Togakushi

Togakushi keeps his pale hair gathered behind him in a long, braided tail and sports notably small eyebrows. Beyond that he dresses in the ordinary black garb worn throughout the Soul Reaper ranks.

He first appears during the raid on the Seireitei, gazing upward in astonishment as the Shiba cannonball streaks across the sky. His story ends in the war against the Wandenreich, when he stands with lieutenant Izuru Kira and other third company officers at the foot of one of the towering blue flames raised by the invaders. Warned that a Quincy lurks inside the fire, Kira calls for an assault but is gravely wounded before he can act. Condemning the underhanded ambush, Togakushi orders the remaining Soul Reapers to release their blades and does so himself, only for Bazz-B to erase the upper half of his body with a single burst of flame from his fingertip, snuffing out his spiritual presence entirely.

His Zanpakutō, Shunjin, or Spring Dust, resembles a common katana while sealed. Roused by the command to coil upward, it reshapes into a scythe set on a long, straight shaft, unusually keeping its edge along the outer curve rather than the inner one. He never attained a Bankai. Fittingly, its name is a seasonal poetic term, matching the wintry and floral names carried by his fellow third company officers.
