Summary

In Reole, Hohenheim throws himself into rebuilding the town, and its grateful people welcome Alphonse despite the hardship the military once brought them. While Rose lends Winry fresh clothes and describes how the Elric brothers pulled her out of despair after her boyfriend's death, Alphonse presses his father for the truth about the man beneath Central who wears his face. Touched that his son trusts him, Hohenheim agrees to explain everything, admitting that he is himself a living Philosopher's Stone and that their foe, Father, amounts to a vessel shaped in his own likeness that has to be destroyed.

Far to the north, Darius withdraws Edward's research funds at a bank to cover the alchemist's care, unaware the manager has already alerted the army. When soldiers converge on the clinic, a fully recovered Edward, unrecognizable stripped of his coat and braid, floors the patrol with his fists, and the trio escape by seizing a car that Edward disguises through transmutation, much to his companions' distaste for the result. On the road he worries over whether Alphonse has safely reached Winry and the others.

Beneath Central, a lost Bido blunders into the chamber of Mannequin Soldiers and overhears Gardner describe the immortal army to Olivier. Fleeing, he finds Greed at last, only for the homunculus to strike him down, dismissing their old bond as belonging to a former self. The killing shakes loose the previous Greed's memories, and Ling, sickened, forces his host to face the loyalty that avarice cannot fully bury. Overtaken by rage, Greed storms the Fuhrer's mansion and lunges at Bradley, whose sword turns the blow aside.

Key Events

Hohenheim discloses to Alphonse that he is a living Philosopher's Stone and that Father is a container modeled on his own body, warning that their plan will fail because Pride guards the tunnel. A recovered Edward routs the soldiers who trail him to a North City clinic and escapes with Darius and Heinkel. Bido reaches Central and dies under Greed's claws, an act that stirs the buried memories of the homunculus's former gang. Prodded by Ling, Greed breaks fully with his siblings and charges King Bradley.

Notes

The chapter adapts A Full Recovery and Family by Spirit, and it shortens Bido's trek through Central by cutting the guard chimeras he slips past in the manga. Because the English dub recast Greed from Chris Patton to Troy Baker, Bido's remark about a familiar voice loses its logic, a snag the Latin American Spanish track avoids by referring to his manner of speech instead. The Adult Swim broadcast removed the closing scene of the enraged Greed rushing into Bradley's home.
