Sakura Suzuhara

Nothing about Sakura recalls her older brother. Fair skinned, she keeps her brown hair long and tops it with a black beret, a blue scarf knotted at her throat. Within WILLE her outfit belongs to her alone: a gray and white dress fitted with a single pocket, worn over dark leggings that stop short of the knee.

Among the crew of the Wunder, Sakura alone addresses Shinji with courtesy. She is genuinely enthusiastic about WILLE's mission, delighted to watch the operation against Evangelion Mark.04C from the bridge, yet she quietly objects to some of the organization's harder choices, the DSS Choker fitted on Shinji chief among them.

Her feelings about the boy pull in two directions at once. She brands him a bringer of misfortune, to the world and to himself, whenever an Evangelion is involved, and she is prepared to point a gun at him to keep him out of an entry plug. Even then her conviction wavers: she weeps, her hands shake around the weapon, and she squeezes her eyes shut as she pulls the trigger. In her own words he is a savior and a destroyer in one body. Like Tōji, she speaks in the Kansai dialect.

As a child in Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, Sakura is hurt during the clash between Unit-01 and the Fourth Angel and spends a long stretch hospitalized, to her brother's anguish. Her discharge comes around the time Unit-03 reaches Japan, the same day Tōji skips class to stay at her side.

Having lived through the Near Third Impact, she reappears fourteen years later in Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo as a WILLE medical officer with a Second Lieutenant's commission. Once Shinji wakes aboard the ship she monitors his condition, walks him to the deck to face Misato Katsuragi, then escorts him to his cell and introduces herself, the conversation that makes him grasp how much time has passed. She alone treats him with any tenderness during his confinement, and she pleads with him never to pilot again before he flees aboard Mark.09.

In Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time she greets his return with tears, a slap, and a furious scolding for piloting after everything she said. She co-signs his custody paperwork with Asuka, arranging observation in Chamber 2 without a choker this time, and receives Village-3 records along with a letter from Tōji containing a family photograph signed with his love, which leaves her crying. During Operation Yamato she works the medical bay, but when Shinji resolves to pursue Gendō into Minus Space she draws her sidearm beside Midori Kitakami and fires near his feet, meaning to wound him just enough to keep him from a cockpit. Misato steps into her next shot and takes the bullet in the stomach; only Midori's own gunfire persuades Sakura to drop the weapon. She treats the dying captain, then shepherds wounded crew off the Wunder to the orbital assault craft before the ship is given up to forge the Spear of Gaius, escaping in a capsule that lands near Village-3.

Outside the films she features in the crossover game Goddess of Victory: Nikke, where she studies under the Seraphim doctor Mary to master the treatment of Nikkes. She drives herself relentlessly and admits that watching patients die in her own world, some vanishing without a trace, is what fuels her need to save every life she can reach.
