Iwana (citizen)

Iwana is a stout, short-statured young man. His hair is a pale ash-violet, cropped close, and his eyes carry nearly the same tint. His everyday outfit sets a grey shirt with purple sleeves against plain trousers and sandals.

Warmth and optimism define Iwana. He is gracious toward ninja, and understanding that they are the village's best chance of survival, he willingly gives up his own rations so they can eat. The loss of Kagura stays with him, and he holds onto his friend's memory long after the young man's death.

Iwana grew up alongside Yamame, and the two reached out to Kagura Karatachi when the withdrawn newcomer kept to himself, drawing him into their friendship. His trade is building; with Yamame and Kyohō Fuefuki he can raise barricades and fencing in short order. Years later Kagura returned to warn his old friends that the Funato clan's elite would cut through their village on the way to Kirigakure, and Iwana agreed to help mount a defence. Spotting Kyohō felling trees on his own, he and Yamame pitched in on the fortifications and, struck by the man's strength, urged him to come back for work once the war ended. The first Funato assault left the pair patching up their homes while they mourned Kagura. When the enemy came again, the villagers took cover, and Iwana begged Boruto to avenge his friend. Afterward the community rebuilt sturdier than before. Iwana stood with the others against interrogating a captured Funato soldier, resentful of the clan, and he and Yamame asked the pardoned Kyohō to remain as a protector, though the man left instead to aid Buntan. Once Team 7 came back from an ambush tied to Funamushi's son Kobuna, the villagers held firm in wanting to fight, and Iwana helped spread word of the coming clash between the Funato and Kirigakure.
