Ōnami

Blue-eyed and round-faced, Ōnami is a broad-shouldered, rather portly man standing at about average height. His dark hair is cut short, with a shaved strip behind each ear that splits the style cleanly in two. He favours a formal blue suit, which he pairs with a crisp white shirt and tie, and as a miner he keeps a white helmet close by to put on whenever the job demands.

Good-natured yet far too quick to trust, Ōnami threw himself into hiring miners to lift Dotō Island's fortunes but skipped any vetting, so criminals slipped into his ranks. His scheme of two shifts, meant to deter gold thieves, wound up aiding them instead. He tends to accept things at face value, fretting that Konoha dispatched only Team 5 and sizing up Denki by his frail looks. Even so, he can shoulder blame, offering Denki an apology for that misjudgement once the squad had rounded up the thieves and clawed back the gold.

Once gold was struck on Dotō Island, Ōnami took charge of the dig, and because the tangled geology made the work perilous he ordered automated puppets from craftsmen in the Land of Fire. Skeptical of Team 5 at first, he changed his tune on discovering that the parcel Denki had wrestled up the mountain path outweighed anything the chief himself could hoist. When he presented the puppets to his workers, infiltrating bandits seized him and sealed the miners inside, only for Denki to rig the puppets into an escape route; after the culprits were caught and the gold retrieved, a grateful Ōnami apologised and praised the team. The Funato clan later raided the island, cutting Ōnami, his miners, and the visiting Konoha tool researchers off from Team 5 and holding them captive to strip every last ingot for their pirate captors. In time, Sarada Uchiha and Mitsuki broke through to liberate the prisoners, drove the raiders back, and guided everyone clear, and with Leaf and Mist ninja lending a hand Ōnami got off the island unharmed.
