Tatsunami

A large man sporting a beard and short brown hair, Tatsunami dresses for mine work in a grey turtleneck and blue overalls. He tops it off with heavy boots, gloves, and a white helmet whose lamp sits at his forehead.

Greedy and hard-hearted, Tatsunami exploits the trusting nature of his boss, Ōnami, who never checks his criminal record before taking him on. He is consumed by the gold scheme and rankled when Konoha's shinobi threaten to spoil it, dismissing the young ninja as fools. Though he and his partner Sakanami seem evenly matched, Sakanami appears the more pressured of the two, most tellingly when Tatsunami abandons him to Metal Lee's assault and runs off to guard the gold instead.

Tatsunami is a ninja who commands Water Release and can pull off demanding, chakra-heavy techniques such as the Water Dragon Bullet. He also thinks on his feet, improvising an escape through a press of miners and shinobi once his original theft looked doomed. Formerly a miner himself, he abandoned that trade for crime, and when gold surfaced on Dotō Island he and Sakanami hired on as miners to steal it.

During the Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure Arc he is underground with the other workers when Ōnami arrives with Denki Kaminarimon's team. Realising his scheme is unravelling, he and his partner grab the gold, lock the chief and the others inside, and flee to the beach to ready a hovercraft. Denki's robots let Team 5 catch up, and though the pair speed off, the autonomous puppets stretch out their arms to slow the craft and then net it. Tatsunami guns the engine and nearly breaks free until Iwabee Yuino smashes it with his stone hammer. As the boat capsizes he seizes Ōnami and swings a large knife, deflecting Metal Lee's kunai and elbowing his old boss in the gut, but against Metal and Iwabee in close combat he is quickly overwhelmed and beaten by the two genin.
