Levy's Paradise Lost

Set at Angstrom's warehouse harbor, this overarching Season 2 event dramatizes a rescue mission gone catastrophically wrong. Invincible is dispatched to stop what looks like a dangerous plot, but Angstrom Levy is in fact a self-styled pacifist trying to gather knowledge from parallel realities to better all of existence. The night ends with the warehouse in ruins, the alternate Maulers and Angstroms dead, and the true Angstrom transformed into a broken, vengeful monster, planting the seed for his later crusades against Mark.

Having found countless versions of himself across the multiverse, Angstrom plans to absorb their combined medical, technological, and philosophical knowledge to help all of reality. To pull it off he breaks the Mauler Twins out of prison, valuing their cloning expertise, and promises to deliver them to a reality of their choosing. When Cecil and the GDA learn the twins are free and building something hazardous, they send Mark, now working for Cecil, to shut the operation down. Inside, the many Angstroms sit wired to the machine while the Maulers transfer their memories.

Invincible barges in and attacks the twins despite Angstrom's frantic pleas to stop. Cornered, Angstrom is forced to summon an army of alternate Maulers, who swarm and overwhelm Mark, beating him until he is spitting blood. Horrified and ignored when he begs them to relent, Angstrom finally tears off his helmet and shuts down the machine, killing the Maulers and his own alternate selves in the process. The device implodes and the warehouse collapses as Mark shields himself. The rest of the Guardians arrive, and both Rex and Cecil reassure him that the Maulers sealed their own fate.

In the wreckage, a single original Mauler Twin survives, disfigured and enraged. Angstrom, having ended the transfer too early, has grotesquely mutated, his mind unable to separate the flood of alternate memories from his own. Blaming Invincible and haunted by the atrocities of evil variants, he vows vengeance and vanishes through a portal. In another world, the mutated Angstrom quietly interrogates a captive evil Mark, gleaning how to defeat his alternate selves. Meanwhile, the surviving Mauler returns home, grows a fresh clone, and is soon poisoned to death by that very copy, which insists the clone theory must always hold.

What begins as one solved problem spawns a far worse one. Angstrom's grudge fuels his later schemes, from dragging Invincible through the multiverse in the assault on the Graysons to unleashing an army of evil Invincibles in the Invincible War, both of which push Mark toward a darker stretch of heroism. The wiki notes that Angstrom would never have removed his helmet or begun this vendetta had the Guardians arrived in Mark's place, and that after this night he forgets he ever saved Invincible at all.
