The Police

The Police are bodies of law-enforcement officers working under their local departments and upholding the law of the state. Tracing their origins back roughly to the fifteenth century, they appear across the series as regular human responders operating in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta. They stand apart from the specialized outfits of the setting, doing routine police work while superpowered chaos unfolds around them.

In 2013, when four monsters set upon civilians along a highway, officers moved in to make a stand. A young woman urged them to pull back, and although the commander first told her to leave, he was won over after she shielded them from an oncoming car, letting the officers withdraw to set up a perimeter. A decade later, two of Machine Head's henchmen hit a bank, and the Chicago police tried to stop them. Invincible moved to help before backing away as memories of the city's destruction surfaced, and the arrival of the GDA sent the crooks fleeing, leaving one officer to yank off his hat in frustration.

The officers also turn up beyond the main reality. In one alternate universe an Angstrom Levy rose to police commissioner and, on one of his earliest and final assignments, led a squad against a murderous Invincible. The team unloaded round after round, but the hero strolled straight through the gunfire and killed every officer except Levy.

The group is mostly made up of unnamed officers across various departments. Its most singular figure is the alternate-universe Angstrom Levy who served as a police commissioner. Their recorded foes include the Phase Siblings, Magmaniac, Tether Tyrant, and the City Kaiju.
