Threat of the Rognarrs

The Threat of the Rognarrs stands as a disastrous episode from the distant past of Viltrumite history, unfolding on the world known as the Savage Planet. During a scouting mission there, a Viltrum Empire still reeling from the Scourge Virus ran up against the deadly Rognarr creatures, and the encounter left several of the surviving, virus-stricken warriors dead or gravely maimed. The planet's crushing gravity proved as much an enemy as the beasts themselves.

The first incident came in the wake of the Scourge Virus, when Nolan and his partner were dispatched to survey the harsh Savage Planet for the empire. Its gravity ran crushingly heavy, the pull so fierce that the two could barely move, and after turning up no usable resources they prepared to head home. Without warning the Rognarrs struck, killing Nolan's partner and swiftly pinning Nolan down. The creatures could tear flesh from bone, hold him fast, and spring enormous distances to snatch him from the air whenever he tried to flee, and how he ultimately survived and got off the planet remains unknown.

A second incident followed in later years as agent after agent failed to capture or kill even one Rognarr. Among them, a weakened Conquest ventured to the Savage Planet and fell victim to the beasts, his body so badly wrecked that he came away with a blinded, scarred right eye and a mechanical arm replacing the limb he lost. Recognizing the danger the creatures posed, the Viltrumites at last placed an enormous solar disc before the sun, freezing both the star and the Rognarrs entirely.

Nolan and Conquest are the recorded survivors of the ordeal. Nolan's unnamed partner was killed by the Rognarrs early in the first mission. General Kregg is named among the Viltrumite command tied to the campaign, and the Rognarrs themselves stood as the opposing force before being sealed in ice along with their planet.
