The Shutdown Override Signal Plug is a device from the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, developed by WILLE with the power to shut an Evangelion down. WILLE intends it as the means of permanently disabling Evangelion 13. While dormant it takes the outline of an entry plug; once triggered, it opens out into the shape of a cross.
Role
Ahead of Operation Yamato in Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time, Ritsuko Akagi tells Misato the weapon stands ready for use against Evangelion 13. The device rides on the waist of New Unit-02α. Closing on the target, Asuka arms the plug and drives it toward the core of Evangelion 13, only for her own machine's A.T. Field to flare and repel it with tremendous force. She strips that field away by injecting her Eva with an Angel's blood and releasing the seal within herself. The strike still falls short; Evangelion 13 awakens before the plug can reach its core, obliterating the weapon with beams from its eyes, killing the new Ninth Angel, and pressing on with the next stage of the ritual.
