The twentieth installment of Fruits Basket 2019's second season piles class and student council demands on Yuki as the culture festival nears, drawing him deeper into the tangled family burdens shared by Kakeru and Machi.
With the culture festival approaching, Yuki finds himself stretched thin between his class duties and his responsibilities on the student council. Watching Machi and Kakeru up close, he begins to see how much their family troubles echo his own.
Yuki's class settles on staging Cinderella, and though Uotani assumes he will take the prince, he begs off, pleading a full council schedule. When Machi hurls a book through the meeting room door in distress, Kakeru quietly covers for her, then reveals that she is his half-sister, born to their father's mistress and still trapped in a bitter dispute over who will inherit. Yuki concludes that no one chooses their parents, so the only path forward is acceptance. A visit home for his mother's signature on a phone contract catches him off guard when she offers a rare, genuinely maternal word.
The eventual casting places Yuki as the fairy godmother, Saki as Cinderella, Kyo as the prince, and Tohru as a wicked step-sister, which delights the Prince Yuki fan club. Later, Yuki is trapped in a pitch-black closet, where spilled paint and the darkness drag him back to memories of Akito. Machi smashes the door open with a chair to free him, and afterward, sickened by the fumes, he admits to Kakeru that the dark room stirred up painful recollections.
This episode adapts chapters 81 and 83, using the vote over a festival play to bridge back into the remaining events of chapter 81. The title is drawn from a line of Machi's. It aired in Japan on August 17, 2020, and in the United States on November 23, 2020, with the opening Home and the ending Eden.
