There's Just No Way!

Waking disoriented in Tohru's bed, Rin at first mistakes her caretaker for her own cruel mother. Shigure fills in the gaps: she had collapsed at the house and grown so sick she turned into a horse, ruling out any hospital trip. When Hatori raises the hospital again, Rin recoils so hard she tries to leap from the window. Shigure privately reveals to Hatori that Rin is chasing a way to lift the family's curse, an idea Hatori dismisses as impossible.

Rin warns Yuki that telling Haru she is there would be unforgivable, though Yuki assures her Haru's love has never faded. A flashback shows Haru describing how Tohru's ordinary kindness reshaped both Kyo and Yuki. Rin, aching over how gentle Haru is, decides gentle people only invite her pity.

She urges Tohru to guard her own soft little world and stop meddling, unwilling to watch kind souls get used or wounded. Tohru instead lights up at learning Rin also wants the curse broken and flatly refuses to abandon the goal. Overwhelmed, Rin sobs that she has failed to free Haru and flees.

Rin confesses in narration that Tohru stirs feelings she would rather bury, then finally breaks down against her, admitting she is weak and adrift. Tohru answers that solitude is terrifying, and Shigure notes people sometimes must lean on each other. At school Haru cheerfully recounts being ejected from the hospital after Rin swung an IV pole at him. Later Tohru brings jello to Rin's bedside, coaxing her to eat, and Rin explains that the curse springs from an ancient vow the Zodiac spirits made binding them to god. Tohru proposes they work the problem together, while Rin quietly hopes someone will one day rescue Tohru the way Haru once rescued her.

The title comes from one of Isuzu's own lines, and the episode marks the start of her healing from Akito's abuse through Tohru's care. It pulls from chapter 80, a portion of chapter 81, and chapter 82. Numerous small beats were pared away, including Hatori's cigarette during his walk with Shigure, a dinner exchange about romance costing money, Tohru's worry that she was growing conceited, and a closing scene of her fever breaking. Kimi being chased by the fan club after paging Yuki over the intercom was added only for the anime.
