Edison is a Brigadier General of Central Command who knowingly serves the homunculi in exchange for the promise of immortality, only to be betrayed by the very regime he trusted and dragged off to answer for its crimes.
Edison carries the rank and bearing of a Central Command brigadier general, one of the decorated senior officers seated at the top of the Amestrian military hierarchy.
Edison is a true believer in the wrong cause. Fully aware of the homunculi and their design, he places blind faith in King Bradley and in Father, whom he reverently calls the Good Gentleman, and he is driven above all by the promise of an immortal body. That loyalty leaves him both credulous and self-serving, so certain no homunculus would ever change sides that he scoffs at word of Greed defecting, and craven enough to try buying his own protection the instant danger closes in.
Trusted with Amestris' deepest secrets, Edison shuts himself inside Central Command during Mustang's assault on the capital. When the mannequin soldiers activate ahead of schedule, the troops he had counted on turn on him, and he is saved from the mindless horde only by the timely arrival of Izumi Curtis. Grateful, he tries to hire her as a bodyguard, earning a savage beating instead as she forces out everything he knows about the Good Gentleman, after which Izumi and Olivier Armstrong keep him as a hostage. Like millions of others he briefly dies when the nationwide transmutation fires, restored afterward by Hohenheim. With Father beaten and Bradley's order in ruins, Edison ends up bound in Briggs custody alongside General Klemin, both branded among the masterminds of the plot to consume Amestris.
