Appearance

The household is made up of Shou Tucker, his young daughter Nina, his wife, and the family dog Alexander. A portrait drawn by Nina in the 2003 anime captures the group together before tragedy tore them apart. Tucker earned early fame as the Sewing-Life Alchemist after crafting a chimera able to speak, though the creature managed only a single mournful line, a plea to die, before starving itself; his wife, it later emerged, had been used as an ingredient in that beast.

Personality

The family's story is defined by Shou Tucker's ruthless devotion to his research. Faced with mounting pressure to prove his worth as a State Alchemist, he treated his own wife and daughter as raw material rather than loved ones, insisting to a furious Edward that he simply could not resist attempting whatever alchemy might make possible. In the 2003 version he spirals further into paranoia and instability, latching onto anyone who might help him restore Nina.

History

In the manga Tucker is a slight presence who meets the Elrics a few years into Edward's service, then, panicked over a looming research deadline, transmutes Nina and Alexander into a single chimera. The brothers exposed him and handed him to the authorities after Edward nearly beat him to death, and Scar soon killed both the father and the transformed girl. The 2003 anime gives the family a far darker arc: pressed by his sponsor Basque Grand, Tucker again sacrifices Nina and the dog, but instead of execution he is quietly moved to Laboratory 5 to keep working. Turned into a chimera himself, he drifts between Greed's gang and Frank Archer's forces, building chimera armies and fashioning lifeless dolls in Nina's likeness from her remains. He tricks Alphonse into helping him try to rebuild a fully human Nina, yet even a flawless human transmutation fails because his will cannot anchor her soul, a defeat that shatters what sanity he had left.
