Matt

Matt is a teenage boy who lives with his mother and stepfather. The series keeps its focus on his growth from a rebellious kid into a young man his parents can be proud of rather than on any detailed physical description.

Once a wayward youth tangled up in theft and substance abuse, Matt confronted those struggles head on and left them behind him. Steve and his mother regard the person he has grown into with real pride. A passionate devotion to the Beatles shapes much of who he is, so much so that his dream is to walk Abbey Road and visit Apple Records for himself. Beneath the earlier defiance sits genuine warmth, shown most clearly when he finally accepts Steve as a father figure.

Before Steve entered the picture, Matt lived under his biological father's roof and ran wild. His turnaround moved his mother and Steve enough that they set aside money for a spring break trip to London as a reward for his effort. While touring Buckingham Palace, Matt marveled at the sheer scale of the place, prompting Steve to explain that such buildings exist to project royal power rather than provide living space. Moments later a ketchup soaked fast food bag, hurled into orbit days earlier by Invincible, plummeted back and nearly struck Steve. Matt shoved him clear and called him Dad for the first time, and the two embraced in tears.

Later, Matt and a friend crept into a cemetery to unearth the Immortal's body, chasing an online rumor that drinking from the hero's skull would grant his powers. Matt fretted that the scheme could cost Steve his job at the White House, but his companion pressed on. Their digging was interrupted when the Mauler Twins appeared and warned them not to trust everything they read online. Whether the boys survived the encounter remains unconfirmed.
