Straight hair of middling length frames a face that is nearly always grinning. Tenko is a young man, and the rest of him is his uniform: the standard outfit of a mall clerk, hat included.

Customers get the full treatment from Tenko, greeted with a smile, walked to whatever they came for, handed his card along the way. He works earnestly and past the point of sense, taking on more than one person can physically carry, because refusing to help does not occur to him.

The eagerness has a root. Employer after employer turned him down once they heard what his Quirk does, so the mall that hired him anyway gets everything he has, offered as thanks. That history also leaves him fragile. The theft of the April Fools buckle sent him straight to the assumption that suspicion would land on him first, and he bolted. Being thanked instead, and hearing his manager and coworkers describe him as the honest worker they already knew he was, reduced him to grateful tears.

Hitoshi Shinso stops by Got-It-All Mall to shop before a training session with Shota Aizawa, who asked him to pick something up. Tenko attaches himself as guide, showing off a cafe built for studying and an exhibit of vintage hero costumes and gear that his manager dreamed up. Along the way he tries to carry boxes upstairs for one coworker, stock shelves for another, and haul a customer's bags, all at the same time, and the whole pile comes down on him. Hitoshi helps clean it up and is thanked with alarming intensity, including an offer to shave his own head in apology. Just help me normally, Hitoshi tells him, and Tenko answers that earning trust costs him more effort than it costs anybody else.

Conjure gets a demonstration next: a toy rabbit vanishes and reappears in Tenko's hand. Hitoshi's read is that the power is holding him back, and Tenko agrees that most employers thought so too, which is exactly why he intends to out-work all of them. Watching from a distance are Tenya Ida, Hanta Sero, and Izuku Midoriya, out buying gifts to welcome Hitoshi into the hero course. They drift into the exhibit at Izuku's request, where the prize piece is an April Fools buckle belonging to All Might, an almost exact twin of the one fixed to his hero costume, worn a single time at a ceremony marking his first five years on the job, with none of the hundred thousand spectators catching the difference. Izuku spots that the buckle on display is itself a forgery and that the genuine article is gone.

Tenko panics when security briefs him and runs, despite Hitoshi telling him to simply state the truth. The students find the culprit anyway, a guard working with an accomplice, after Hitoshi reads the man's posture and lips and learns the pair are heading for a car in the garage. Hanta and Tenya bring their Quirks to bear on the vehicle and Izuku punches the driver clean out of the structure, buckle still in his grip, so that he lands at Tenko's feet. The clerk picks it up just as his manager and a guard arrive, protests that this is not what it looks like, and is thanked instead; a colleague explains that nobody would ever suspect the hardest worker on the payroll. Tenko realizes the only doubt in the building had been his own and swears to be honest from then on. He also mentions to Hitoshi that when the thief fell, he saw a figure behind him who looked like a hero, and that figure was Hitoshi.
