Silence Glaive

This polearm is the sole weapon Sailor Saturn ever fights with, and it earns the grim title of the Scythe of the Goddess of Death. It figures into nearly all of her techniques and follows her through every version of the story where she appears. When she brings it down without uttering a word, whatever planet she targets crumbles into dust, its long climb of civilization wound back to nothing.

The blade channels Saturn's mightiest strike, an assault taken to its absolute limit just once in the manga, in the wake of the Silver Millennium's collapse. Unleashing that full measure of power claims her own life as the price, after which her soul is reborn inside the mind and body of the twelve-year-old Hotaru Tomoe. Fans sometimes assume it is a Talisman, but it is not one, and the Cloverway English dub renamed it the Silent Scythe.

Beyond wholesale destruction, the glaive drives attacks such as Death Reborn Revolution, Silence Wall, Silence Glaive Surprise, and Galactica Cannon. It can gravely wound or sap the strength of foes, freeze them in place, and throw up sturdy barriers of energy. Its darkest purpose is to end everything and everyone at once, a use reserved for the moment when no other option remains.

The weapon is not solely a killing tool. Saturn can turn it into a defensive Silence Wall, shaping a shield strong enough to turn back devastating strikes. That dual nature, capable of ruin and of guarding those she stands beside, is central to how the last guardian of the Silver Millennium wields it.

Sailor Saturn alone bears the glaive. In the 1990s anime it first surfaces as a vision shared by Rei and Michiru, a shadowy figure wiping out all life, which Michiru identifies as the scythe of the era's final guardian. During episode 125 Saturn calls the weapon forth and pours its lethal force into Pharaoh 90's core to end him. Later, as a Super form, she raises a Silence Wall around herself and Super Sailor Chibi Moon against Nehelenia, then triggers Silence Glaive Surprise, an explosion that levels much of the castle before Nehelenia knocks the blade from her grip. By episode 196 she uses it to shield her allies from Galaxia's bursts and aims it at Galaxia herself, only for the scythe to shatter under the enemy's counter.

In Sailor Moon Crystal the glaive appears in a flashback of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, where the resonance of the Space Sword, the Deep Aqua Mirror, and the Garnet Orb summons Saturn from her sealed world and she swings it down to reduce the Moon Kingdom to rubble. In Act 37 she plunges its blunt end into Pharaoh 90, loosing dark purple energy that paralyzes him before she calls Death Reborn Revolution. The manga likewise reserves the weapon for her unnamed ultimate attack meant to bring about the end of the world.
