Teletia S

Item

The Teletia S phones are gadgets exclusive to the live-action series, carried by the Inner Guardians. They stand in for both the Communicator and the Disguise Pen, working as ordinary cell phones while also letting the girls take on the look of anyone they photograph.

Overview

The Teletia S phones were devices the Sailor Guardians carried, appearing only in the live-action series. They took over the job of the Communicator seen in the manga and anime, and they also absorbed the role of the Disguise Pen. On the surface they behaved like everyday mobile phones, capable of placing ordinary calls and even reaching several people at the same time.

Function

Alongside normal calling, the phones let a Guardian change her appearance. By snapping a photo of someone with the built-in camera, a girl could adopt that person's look, or at least their clothing. The captured image could be used at once or saved on the phone to draw on later, handy for parties, dates, and similar occasions. In this way the device echoed the manga and anime's Disguise Pen, since it could turn its owner into whatever was needed. A Guardian did not have to apply a disguise to herself alone; she could let another Guardian use whatever was stored on her phone, most clearly shown when Makoto tried on every disguise saved across the other girls' devices. The phones also handled routine calls, with the girls occasionally ringing or hearing from friends and acquaintances.

Notable Users

All four Inner Guardians owned a Teletia S. Minako Aino's phone, however, surfaced only twice across the whole series: once when Makoto used the network to warn the others about a Youma, and again in the DVD and VHS-only Act Zero, where she transformed into Sailor V. In that same Act Zero, Artemis used the Teletia S to change Minako into Sailor V, the lone instance of the phone being used for a transformation, setting aside Luna's separate Lunatia L. After becoming a Guardian, Sailor Luna went on to carry a comparable device called the Lunatia L.
