Luna

In cat form Luna sports short black-purple fur, deep garnet eyes, a pink nose with matching inner ears, dark whiskers, and the upturned golden crescent that marks her brow. The films grant her a human shape as well: through Super Sailor Moon's power she takes on very long charcoal-gray hair with a periwinkle sheen, blue eyes, and side fringes, her locks bound into a bare double odango above loose strands.

Posing as Princess Kaguya to charm her crush Kakeru Ohzora, she dons a yellow sleeveless dress whose pleated skirt joins a longer charcoal-and-periwinkle underskirt trailing behind her bare feet, trimmed with dark green bows. Dangling gold crescent earrings, a crescent pendant, a chain anklet, and the pale ribbon choker Kakeru gave her finish the ensemble.

Luna takes the guardians' mission seriously and never lets them forget their duties, reserving her sharpest expectations for Usagi, whom she pushes hardest in hopes of seeing her mature. The severity is affection she struggles to voice. For all her gravity she can loosen up, showing a playful streak, teasing Usagi, and now and then letting the girls follow their own whims.

Romance is her private weakness; she dreams of finding love, whether curled beside Artemis or falling for someone across a given storyline. Quick to judge, she once mistook Ami for a monster, and she tends to stay guarded until others earn her warmth. A keen sense for evil energy rounds her out, tensing or shivering when a foe draws near while an oblivious Usagi notices nothing.

Luna and Artemis once served Queen Serenity as advisors in the Moon Kingdom, until the Dark Kingdom under Beryl and Metalia stormed the palace. After the dying queen sacrificed herself to send her daughter, Endymion, the four planetary princesses, and the court to be reborn on future Earth, she charged the two cats with locating the princesses so they might rise again as guardians. On Earth the pair split up to search, and Luna crossed paths with Usagi, the reincarnated princess, after some boys tormented her; peeling off the bandage on the girl's brow revealed the crescent birthmark, and that night Luna explained her heroic destiny.

Across the first season she wakens Ami, Rei, and Makoto with transformation pens, supplies Ami's supercomputer and Usagi's Disguise Pen, and trades intelligence about the enemy with a mysterious contact through the Sailor V arcade game, later revealed to be Artemis. She and Artemis eventually locate the foe's lair at D Point but are wounded by Kunzite. In later seasons she rallies the team against Ail and An, frets when Usagi's transformation items are destroyed, and comes to learn that the kitten Diana is the future daughter she will one day have with Artemis. As a guardian she conjures the team's pens and tools, leaps and claws in a pinch, and makes her crescent glow to reawaken sleeping power.
