The S1 Squad is one of the elite strike units maintained by the Commission of Counter Ghoul, formed to take on the agency's most demanding cases and its most lethal ghoul targets.
Within the anti-ghoul agency known as the Commission of Counter Ghoul, the S1 Squad stands as a designated special unit. It draws the sort of assignments considered too hazardous for ordinary teams, aiming its efforts at high-threat quarry.
The unit exists to shoulder priority casework and to confront the dangerous individuals other divisions cannot safely engage. Across its history a succession of respected investigators has taken the reins of command, while its ranks also hold many members whose names go unrecorded.
Koori Ui once led the group before rising to serve as a Bureau Director Adviser. Hairu Ihei counted among its personnel before her death. Mougan Tanakamaru held the post of squad commander until he stepped away from the Commission entirely and took up life as a monk.
