Overview

Soft & Wet is carried by Josuke Higashikata, the protagonist of JoJolion, though the Stand originally answered to Josefumi Kujo. Streamlined, pale, and roughly Josuke's height, it presents a robotic humanoid frame topped by a star bound within a circle and eyes shaped like slotted screw heads. Hirohiko Araki built the design to suit Josuke's outfit rather than the ability, borrowing from a sailor's uniform and the flotation panels of a life vest. Its plating shifts toward a more heart-like torso as the story goes on.

Mechanics

As a melee Stand, Soft & Wet hits hard and fast, cracking open an apartment wall with a single back kick and trading rapid blows, though its raw force stops short of shattering stone. Its trademark is the production of floating bubbles marked with a five-pointed star. What look like spheres are actually bundles of tiny cords spinning at tremendous speed, and Josuke can steer where they drift so they reach a chosen target.

When one of these bubbles pops against something, it plunders a single property or piece from that object and keeps it. Josuke has used this to blind an opponent by taking their sight, drain the water from a person's body, silence a wall or switch by lifting its sound, remove friction from a floor to turn it to ice, trap a smell to track a foe, pull moisture out of thrown chestnuts, siphon heat into a thermometer, and even relocate a cat's fur or his own shaving stubble. He cannot, however, apply the theft to himself. The bubbles also carry lifting power, letting him hoist enemies or shield allies inside giant spheres, and he can pack small objects like screws inside them to fire on bursting.

After an equivalent exchange fused Josuke's predecessor with Yoshikage Kira, the bubbles took on traits of Kira's Killer Queen, splitting into a visible Josefumi half and a Kira half. These hybrid bubbles detonate with enough force to wound at close range, and Josuke can bury them and set them off, or explode ones planted beneath a target's skin. The Stand later reaches a final form, Soft & Wet: Go Beyond, once Josuke grasps that his bubbles are spinning threads tied to the Spin. Go Beyond fires invisible, uncontrollable bubbles from his birthmark that slip through any barrier, ignore the calamity of Wonder of U, and erode or launch whatever they strike.

Notable Users

Josefumi Kujo was the original owner, who called the power absorption and wielded it with fine precision, grafting a Locacaca branch onto another plant by rearranging matter between the two. Following the equivalent exchange born of the Wall Eyes, the Stand passed to Josuke Higashikata, whose bubbles blend Josefumi's plundering with Kira's explosive touch. Both men belong to the tangled Higashikata lineage at the heart of the story. In the video game adaptations the Stand is voiced by Mitsuaki Madono.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Soft and Wet in JoJo?

Soft & Wet is the close-range Stand of Josuke Higashikata in JoJolion, though it originally belonged to Josefumi Kujo. It fights with fast melee strikes and produces star-marked soap bubbles that steal a property from anything they burst against.

Why is Josuke's Stand called Soft and Wet?

Soft & Wet takes its name from a Prince song of the same title, continuing the series' tradition of naming Stands after real-world music. The Stand's design itself was built to match Josuke's sailor-inspired outfit rather than its abilities.

What is Soft and Wet a reference to?

Soft & Wet is a reference to a song by Prince titled "Soft and Wet," following JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's habit of naming Stands after bands, albums, and songs.

Why did Josuke get Soft and Wet?

Josuke Higashikata inherited Soft & Wet after an equivalent exchange caused by the Wall Eyes fused the deceased Josefumi Kujo, the Stand's original user, with Yoshikage Kira. That fusion is also why Josuke's bubbles later gained explosive traits from Kira's Killer Queen.

What do Soft and Wet's star bubbles do?

Soft & Wet's bubbles are actually tiny cords spinning at high speed, and when one pops against a target it steals a single property, such as sight, sound, moisture, or friction, and holds onto it. Josuke has used this to blind opponents, silence objects, and turn floors to ice, though he cannot use the theft on himself.
