Under World

Under World is carried by Donatello Versus and shows up during Stone Ocean, sorting into both the close-range and sentient categories. Its name points to the Welsh electronic act Underworld. On its own it swings toward power on the charts, yet its reach is the standout trait, stretching across roughly the whole of Orlando, Florida.

The figure stands humanoid, with headphone-like pieces mounted where eyes would normally sit. Faint triangles mark the shoulders, tufts resembling feathers rest at the knees, and checkered bracelets wrap the wrists. A ship's-wheel motif and a Star of Life sit across the chest. Colored art tends to render it pale blue laced with orange.

The Stand carries no real combat punch of its own, so Versus leans entirely on its utility to steer a fight in his favor. Face to face with a Stand user, he is left exposed. Its frame can also take damage: inside a replayed memory, Jolyne managed to wound both it and Versus by driving a pen into its neck.

Working from the idea that soil retains a record of all that has occurred upon it, Under World digs down to haul past events back to the surface. Anything that ever happened in Orlando can be summoned this way, with no limit on how old the moment is or how large. The recalled scenes span car wrecks, shootings, downed aircraft, football matches, buried minerals, and living individuals, and Versus simultaneously gains awareness of everything that has taken place. Take away his ability to perform the digging gesture and the summoning stops working.

Recalled people behave strangely, conscious of what they are yet untroubled by it, as when a flight attendant calmly warns Jolyne that her plane is about to go down. Because the memories are made of earth, even ordinary onlookers can see them. Much like Bohemian Rhapsody, anyone swept into a replayed event lives out exactly what happened and cannot alter the outcome. Survival hinges on spotting a loophole inside the memory, some pocket where no one was hurt, though that only helps a victim who knows the event thoroughly. The Stand can also wreck a loophole and seal its targets inside.

The power stretches past deadly traps. Summoned people can be questioned for information, and replayed scenes can strike at a bystander indirectly, a stray bullet reaching someone who was never pulled into the event. Under World is likewise able to draw out Memory DISCs, a reach Pucci notes when he explains it could pull the DISC from Weather Report.

Donatello Versus is the only wielder of Under World, deploying it against Jolyne and her allies over the course of Stone Ocean.
