Angelica Attanasio

Illness defines how Angelica looks. Barely able to hold her own head upright, her thin neck seems ready to give way, and her complexion stays pale and drained. Faint red colors her lips, though blood often seeps from her mouth as her sickness worsens, leaving her too depleted for any real exertion or fighting.

Her hair falls in an enormous wavy cascade, dotted with roughly five blossoms. She dresses in a short sleeveless number, its band beneath the bust patterned with diamond shapes that cradle eye-like ovals, and beneath it sit floral-printed bloomers. Strings of beads spiral along both legs from thigh to ankle, looping four times on the left and only twice on the right, and she finishes the look with dark low shoes.

Even with a disease steadily killing her, Angelica stays cheerful and giddy. Her youth shows in a dreamy, scattered manner, and she once failed to register Sale walking into the team's warehouse. That vagueness is deceptive, though, because she pays close attention to rival Stands and reads their users sharply, as she did with Mario Zucchero and Soft Machine.

Cruelty amuses her. She cackled while Massimo Volpe roughed up Vittorio Cataldi, and she will happily drag an entire town into deadly danger when it suits her. The nickname Junky Girl fits, since she leans hard on the narcotics team's supply, above all the doses Massimo brews with Manic Depression to blunt her pain and slow her decline.

Affection pours out of her toward the crew. She clings to them like a cat, greeted Vladimir Kocaqi with delight on his return, and kissed Vittorio to steady his nerves before a fight, sounding almost maternal in her faith in him. Massimo holds a unique place in her heart because of her reliance on his Stand, and his blank, joyless face troubles her enough that she tugs his mouth into a grin and begs him to smile for real. When Kocaqi is killed she shatters, wailing in the warehouse until grief hardens into a vow that Fugo, Sheila E, and Cannolo Murolo will answer for it.

Nightbird Flying, Angelica's Stand, inflicts the ruin of terminal drug addiction on anyone it reaches. She uses it to draw Sale and Mario Zucchero deep into the Villa San Giovanni warehouse, exposing them to the rest of the narcotics team, and afterward she points a returning Massimo toward Zucchero and explains that Stand, sealing his fate. When Kocaqi comes back she perches on his knee, laughing that the whole crew is wonderful.

During Massimo's questioning of Zucchero, she catches his flicker of recognition at Fugo's name and keeps prodding about their past, which irritates him. She drapes over him instead, complaining about his scowl and pulling at his lips before giving up as blood runs from her mouth and his Stand soothes her symptoms. She, Massimo, and Vittorio hang back while Kocaqi leaves to face Fugo's group, and word soon arrives that Fugo has killed him.

The loss breaks the survivors. Vittorio decides they must seize the Stone Mask buried beneath Ortygia in Syracuse, and Angelica, sobbing with rage, demands vengeance for Kocaqi. Her Stand fails to bring down the helicopter carrying Fugo and the others, so the group splits: Vittorio races for the mask while she and Massimo lie in wait. Kissing Vittorio's face, she assures him he can retrieve it alone, admitting she is too slow and too weak to fight.

Hidden with Massimo, she casts Nightbird Flying across Syracuse, reducing the population to a mindless, zombified mob and triggering chains of car wrecks that force Sheila E to abandon her vehicle. Angelica drifts into a vacant trance until her Stand returns to her finger and snaps her awake, fury flooding back. Barely able to stand, she staggers out and, amid the horde swarming Fugo, drives a knife through his side. The wound exposes her, and Fugo retaliates with Purple Haze. As she dies the mob's frenzy fades and Massimo hunts frantically for her; a failing streetlight reveals her ghost-pale figure. She points at him with joy, tells him his smile is cute, and collapses, dissolving under the virus and passing away.
