Antonio Torres

In life Antonio is a wiry, thin boy whose short blond hair parts to either side, and he wears a striped T-shirt. His undead form is far more monstrous: eyeless and bare, stripped of muscle, bone, and blood, with clawed hands, fanged teeth, and skin pulled taut over the frame.

Relentless abuse at home twisted Antonio into a savage, aggressive child who bullies Jorge alongside his gang, only to be thrashed each time by Elizabeth, who keeps having to rescue his target. More than twenty years on, that same juvenile streak survives, shown when he reunites with Jorge and vomits on him after stripping him bare.

Antonio's grotesque biology grew out of his mother Maria's abuse. From infancy she peeled the skin from his entire body, kept the pieces supple with oil, bound them back together with medical glue, and topped the reassembly with his own shed hair, naming each rebuilt version This Year's Antonio. The ordeal supercharged his metabolism so that his skin regenerated monthly rather than over years, and eventually settled into shedding completely on the same day each year.

Born Anthony Hightower in England, he wound up in La Palma after his family went bankrupt and adopted the surname Torres to pass among the Spaniards. As a boy in 1900 he tormented George Joestar with his gang, once trying to smear dog feces on his face, and he was repeatedly driven off by Elizabeth. One morning George arrives at school early to dodge them, only for Julio Gonzalez to reveal that Antonio has been murdered, and to suspect George and Lisa Lisa of the killing.

He resurfaces as a zombie in Chapter 11, clinging to the side of Jorge's aircraft and draining its fuel before vanishing, leaving the pilot stranded. Like any zombie he is vulnerable to sunlight, but the skin he sheds lets him spawn zombie duplicates that can each replicate in turn, and by 2012 Jorge and Lisa Lisa reckon he has produced more than 919,040 copies. In a nod to the original saga, Antonio fills the role of the officer zombie who killed George by seizing the body of William Cardinal.
