Slim of frame, Cannolo dresses in a manner far behind the times. Decorative aiguillettes hang across the chest of his jacket, which he pairs with unadorned trousers and shoes of a similarly dated cut. A Borsalino hat completes the outfit.

A sour temperament colors Cannolo, who gripes almost constantly and expects deference from younger colleagues on account of his years, even as he shows genuine respect toward those ranked above him. His line of work has left him thoroughly paranoid, so he treats every irregularity as a threat and keeps probing the intentions of Fugo and Sheila. He once described himself as a hollow man with no convictions and no concern for anyone, indifferent even to his own crimes and driven purely by personal gain. Meeting Giorno reshaped him: he now reveres the young leader, strives to honor his code, and serves him with deep devotion. His Stand, All Along Watchtower, takes the form of a deck of cards that lets him seemingly read hidden information.

Cannolo entered the world at the very bottom of society and endured a bleak upbringing. Once he signed on with Passione, the Stand fed his arrogance, and he schemed to poison the relationship between the assassination squad and the organization's boss for his own advantage. Holding a supervisory post in Passione's information systems division, he restored a damaged photograph that exposed the hiding place of a vital disk, which let Ghiaccio move against Team Bucciarati. His encounter with Giorno brought him shame for the first time in his life and eventually turned him into a loyal follower, and he is told to make amends by helping to dismantle the drug section. He carries a second charge as well: to track down and destroy the stone mask the Nazis concealed in the cathedral on Syracuse island. Giorno assigned this to him rather than handling it personally, since the Speedwagon Foundation and Jotaro Kujo could be watching Giorno's movements, and the arrangement grants Cannolo a measure of freedom while he pursues the task.
