Diavolo

Diavolo is tall and leanly muscular, his long leopard-spotted hair parted in a jagged zig-zag with the bangs propped slightly aside and the rest cut straight at the shoulders. Hidden under Doppio's sweater is a shirt of intricate mesh that wraps his shoulders and torso before trailing into long coat-tails at the back; floral tattoos run down his arms to a pair of gold wristbands, and he shares studded trousers and sockless loafers with his alternate self.

Everything about Diavolo bends toward one compulsion, the drive to wipe away every trace of his history and keep his very existence a secret. He treats the past as an enemy to be crushed so that a person can grow, yet dreads that it always crawls back like a worm, and he passes Passione's orders through proxies or computers so that no one ever meets him in the flesh. He will kill anyone who might expose him, even the daughter he has never met, and he made a grim example of Sorbet by cutting him to pieces and framing him as a warning to would-be traitors. He guards his secret even from Doppio, the loyal second soul who believes himself the Boss's most trusted man. King Crimson mirrors this obsession: it lets him sidestep future mistakes but cannot undo the failures already behind him, forcing him to bury his past by hand.

Born in an all-female prison in the summer of 1967 and raised in Sardinia by a priest, Diavolo grew up frank yet timid, secretly murdering and burying his own mother. As a teenager going by the alias Solido Naso, he fathered Trish Una with Donatella Una without ever knowing it, then vanished; in 1986 a fire he used to fake his death razed the village, and he slipped off to Egypt, where he stumbled onto six Stand-granting arrows. He sold five to Enya Geil, kept one that likely gave him King Crimson, and founded Passione, growing it into a dominant power while hiding behind his dissociative other self, Doppio. Years later Trish's search for her father threatens his anonymity, so he manipulates Team Bucciarati into delivering her while plotting to kill both her and the assassins of La Squadra. When Giorno Giovanna and Bucciarati twist the mission into a plan to topple him, Diavolo battles them across Italy, murders Abbacchio and Narancia, and finally faces Polnareff, whose arrow becomes the key to his ruin. After a desperate scramble over the Requiem Arrow, Giorno awakens Gold Experience Requiem, which nullifies King Crimson and condemns Diavolo to an unending loop of deaths, doomed to perish again and again while begging even a harmless child to keep away from him.
