Appearance

Ferdinand is a blond man who tucks most of his hair beneath a thick beige hood, the parting set to the left and long bangs sweeping down the right side of his face. Roses cluster near the collar of his lengthy main garment, a tunic-like piece that reads almost as a dress and sits just under a hooded coat.

Gloves, kneepads, trousers, and boots round out the outfit, most of it rendered a single deep-red shade in the colored art. His features come across as androgynous, and he seems to wear mascara beneath the eyes along with a touch of lipstick.

Personality

By trade Ferdinand works as both geologist and paleontologist, and he carries himself with theatrical flair. One value towers over all others for him: respect. He venerates the planet to the point of flying into a rage at the sight of someone spitting or dropping litter, certain that the Earth grants prosperity only to those who honor its soil. In his reasoning, the dinosaurs once ruled unchallenged yet perished because their small brains never grasped that truth.

He also stands apart as the first antagonist of the race who serves Funny Valentine out of true devotion rather than pay. He believes the completed Saint's Corpse would deliver respect, prosperity, real power, and an everlasting kingdom to whoever gathers every piece, and he means to hand those pieces to the President, the only man he trusts to wield such might for a nation's glory.

History

Ferdinand came into his Stand, Scary Monsters, two years before the events of the story while hunting for the Devil's Palm. During the third stage of the race he ambushes and badly wounds Diego Brando, though Diego recovers quickly and rejoins Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar, the trio settling into a small mountain village for the night. After dark Diego turns on the group as a dinosaur, his body enhanced and able to convert anyone he bites or claws, and he swiftly raises an army by transforming villagers and animals alike.

Gyro and Johnny try to slip away but are infected too, with only Johnny resisting thanks to the Saint's Corpse. When they move to secure a fresh corpse fragment to save Gyro, Diego seizes the Saint's eyes, and it is then that Ferdinand reveals himself as the true Stand user, lecturing Johnny on respect while scolding him for littering. He orders Diego to take the left arm, but Johnny, briefly setting the relic aside, uses his own partial change into a dinosaur to lunge at the doctor and strike him with his tail, snatching the eyes and passing them to Gyro.

Ferdinand commands Diego to finish Johnny, yet a steel ball fells them both; Gyro, restored to human form and armed with a new technique, manages to wound him. The doctor hides within one of his dinosaurs, only to be exposed and shut down, and with Scary Monsters neutralized the creatures revert. Among them are the pumas, whose true mountain-lion forms round on Ferdinand and devour him, while a freed Diego escapes with the Saint's left eye and the doctor's stolen powers.
