Father Styx

Styx is a priest with a serious fondness for the bottle. His faith in God is genuine, yet he grumbles constantly about being dispatched to unpleasant corners of the world on missionary duty, and he has little tolerance for grime or mess. For all his complaints, his fellow clergy still count on him.

Styx boards the same ocean liner bound for America that carries Jonathan Joestar and Erina on their honeymoon, having been handed an assignment to travel to a Mexican village and win converts. Drowning his displeasure in drink during the crossing, he drops his crucifix through a metal grate and is forced down into the ship's cargo hold to retrieve it.

There he spots the cross resting atop an ornate box and notices its lock hanging open. His curiosity proves fatal: touching the box trips a hidden defense that fires an embedded gem into his face, killing him instantly. The container, unknown to him, is the coffin holding the severed head of Dio Brando.

Styx is left out entirely of the Phantom Blood PlayStation 2 game despite its otherwise faithful retelling. His placement aboard the ship has been read as a nod to the Styx song Come Sail Away, and the actor who voiced him in the anime dub would later take on the role of Ghiaccio.
