Appearance

Illuso stands taller than most, with a lean-to-medium frame, pale eyes, and long hair past his shoulders bound into six pigtails. His entire outfit is quilted, a long-sleeved vest matched with quilted trousers and worn with dress shoes that echo Giorno's, plus metal cuffs at the sleeves. Round knee and elbow pads fasten with straps, a squared metal buckle holds his belt, and cutouts in the fabric leave much of his midsection and neck exposed.

Personality

Illuso carries himself with smug overconfidence, savoring the helplessness his mirror power forces on his targets and taking open pride in what his Stand can do. Cool through the early part of a fight, he keeps scheming to twist any setback back into his favor, though his arrogance costs him when he lets Fugo live instead of finishing him. The anime sharpens his cruelty, showing him mocking Formaggio's ability and brushing off the loss of Sorbet and Gelato, yet he is genuinely shaken to learn how the two were punished, hinting that he cares for his comrades more than he admits. He is also remarkably sharp-eyed, catching Abbacchio's footsteps and instantly noticing the missing key, and he doubles as an informant, holding more intelligence on Team Bucciarati than anyone else, complete with a journal detailing Fugo's past.

History

Long before the main events, Illuso murdered Sheila E's sister, an act that later pushed her to join Passione for revenge. His role in Vento Aureo begins when Abbacchio, Giorno and Fugo arrive in Pompeii to retrieve a key. Concealed within his Mirror World, Illuso snatches Fugo first and overwhelms him by tearing him away from Purple Haze. When Abbacchio breaks off to grab the key and escape, Illuso pursues, dragging half of the ex-cop into the mirror and binding him with his Stand to pin him down. Abbacchio sacrifices his own hand to pass the key to Giorno, who refuses to flee.

Illuso then hauls Giorno into the Mirror World without resistance, only for Giorno to reveal that he has infected himself with one of Purple Haze's viral capsules. Illuso catches the infection too and, aware of how the virus had already killed nearby crows, hurls Giorno aside and retreats to the real world, severing his tainted hand to manage it. Giorno's Gold Experience conjures a snake to hunt him down, and Purple Haze closes in. In a last gambit, Illuso grabs the Stand's fist and tries to shove it into the mirror before the capsules can burst, but Purple Haze fires them first, the virus striking his face directly, and the Stand beats him into a pulp of dissolved flesh and empty clothes.
