Jolyne Cujoh headlines Stone Ocean as the series' sixth JoJo, a daughter of the famed Jotaro Kujo. Framed for a crime she did not commit and locked inside Green Dolphin Street Prison, she awakens the string Stand Stone Free and fights to free her father and stop Enrico Pucci.
Jolyne is a tall young woman with a lean, athletic frame and a bold gaze. Her hair sits in two distinct layers, a dark base gathered into two large buns with a short fall at the neck, crowned by a lightly bleached braid that loops around both buns, with bangs framing her face. Like her Joestar kin she carries the star birthmark, hers set behind her left shoulder, and she sports a tattoo of dagger-pierced butterfly wings on her forearm that also recurs across the chest of her clothing.
Over the course of Part 6 her build grows more powerful and dynamic, and she cycles through mostly dark outfits patterned with a spiderweb-like print.
In her teens Jolyne was a brash, quick-tempered girl widely written off as a delinquent, acting out with petty crimes largely to win the attention of her absent father Jotaro and cycling through detention as a result. Starved of his presence, she leaned heavily on the approval of those around her, enough that she agreed to help cover up her date Romeo's fatal accident, a choice that put her behind bars.
Once she awakens her Stand and finally hears Jotaro admit that he loves her, she steadies into someone braver and more assured, with rescuing her comatose father becoming her driving purpose. She never loses her combative edge, though. Hardened by life in a maximum-security prison, she is blunt to the point of rudeness, meets villains with taunts or threats, and fights viciously, using her string to slice and maim. She also holds grudges and repays any wrong against her many times over.
Jolyne grew up largely without her father, whose work kept him overseas even when she was gravely ill. At fourteen she was wrongly pegged as a robbery suspect and, panicking, stole a motorcycle to flee, and when Jotaro refused to believe her innocence, she wound up in juvenile detention. Her parents' divorce deepened her resentment, and she drifted into a carjacking gang before straightening out by nineteen. A date with the wealthy Romeo Jisso ended in a fatal car accident, and after she helped him conceal the body at his urging, she was arrested and shipped to Green Dolphin Street Prison.
There a pendant from her mother, secretly a fragment of a Stand Arrow, pricks her and eventually lets her assemble the Stand Stone Free. A visit from Jotaro reveals that his enemies framed her to lure him out. In the battle that follows, the assassin Johngalli A and the Stand Whitesnake strip Jotaro of his memory and Stand, and his parting confession that he cherishes her shakes Jolyne to her core.
Rather than flee, she chooses to remain inside the prison to recover his stolen Stand and unmask the hidden enemy, Enrico Pucci, setting her on the long and deadly path that defines Stone Ocean.
