Appearance

Joshu is a nineteen-year-old of average-to-tall height and medium build, with slanted eyes that curved at almost impossible angles in his earliest appearances. His hair is his most striking feature: the sides and top of his scalp are shaved bare, while long rectangular strips grow from the center and fall only toward the front and back, leaving eyebrow-length bangs.

He favors a cap-sleeved top with a band collar and bow tie, arrow shapes pointing up from each shoulder, slashed dark trousers, and thick wristbands. Bite marks scar his left knee after his first run-in with Josuke. Later he loses an arm to a stump in an Equivalent Exchange that heals Yasuho, and two fingers when he lunges at Toru.

Personality

Entitled, loud, and wrapped up in himself, Joshu is the very picture of a spoiled young man. He is rude and vulgar to nearly everyone he meets, frequently insulting Josuke and even mocking him for lacking a family. His selfishness runs deep: he sulks when the center of a family photo goes to someone else and is pacified only by money from his father.

He holds a wildly self-serving outlook on everything around him, insisting Yasuho belongs to him even as she plainly avoids him, and reading her small gestures as declarations of love. Superficial and free-spending, he blows stolen cash on luxury watches, cinema seats, and idol merchandise. Privately, though, he harbors real insecurity, admitting to himself that he has no talent or achievement to call his own. The one person he genuinely respects is his elder brother Jobin, whose skill he openly admires.

History

Before the events of JoJolion, Joshu led an ordinary life, unaware of Morioh's stranger forces. He befriended Yasuho in his youth, fell in love with her, and shared a single kiss, then enrolled to study sociology, a subject Yasuho finds ironic given his poor social skills. When Yasuho hauls a naked stranger out of the debris near the Wall Eyes, a jealous Joshu attacks the man with a rock and has his eyes momentarily erased by Soft & Wet, waking in the hospital with matching bite marks on his leg.

His path keeps tangling with Josuke's in petty quarrels that his father usually has to break up. At Shakedown Road he first awakens his Stand, Nut King Call, which plants nuts and bolts to disassemble objects or fuse them together, and can leave permanent deformities if things are reassembled carelessly. During the Milagro Man affair he steals a cursed wallet whose money keeps multiplying, growing paranoid before passing the curse back to its victim. Late in the story he loses his arm trying to shield Yasuho from Wonder of U and is repeatedly hurt by Toru before being knocked out. In the aftermath, following the deaths of Jobin and Kaato, he at last treats Josuke as true kin and abandons his old hostility.
