Appearance

Josuke is a young, athletic man standing a touch above average height, with a gap between his front teeth and the Joestar star birthmark on his left shoulder. His fused origin gave him four testicles, two tongues joined into one that differ in color and texture, and a doubled set of irises. He wears a tasseled sailor cap, its brand reading SBR, above a wide-necked sailor suit cropped at the navel, marked with an anchor on one flank and a compass rose set opposite, paired with high-top shoes; Yasuho notes he resembles her dog.

After a Locacaca 6251 Equivalent Exchange saves his life, segmented rocks sprout over the left half of his face and around one eye. One rock covering the eye is later eaten away by Obladi Oblada, and the remaining growths on his cheek are eventually removed.

Personality

Josuke is a quirky amnesiac fixed on uncovering his true identity. His retrograde amnesia wiped his memory of himself and his past yet left assorted knowledge intact, and nearly everything he does bends toward learning who he was. Once he discovers his origins, he trades that goal for a new one: recovering the Locacaca and using its fruit to cure Holy Joestar-Kira.

He seems to carry traits from both men who made him, showing Josefumi's strong feelings alongside Kira's cool analysis, though he ultimately considers himself neither. Capable of restraint toward enemies he need not kill, he can still turn deadly, dispatching Tamaki Damo in cold blood for threatening his adoptive family, and his fury sharpens whenever Yasuho is endangered. He values kinship deeply, honoring his adoption into the Higashikata family, and balances a methodical mind with a string of odd habits, from measuring things by sight to sleeping beneath a whole mattress.

History

Josuke came into being when the marine surgeon Yoshikage Kira and the student Josefumi Kujo, both mortally wounded after a scheme to steal Locacaca, were merged by an emerging Wall Eye during the 2011 Morioh earthquake. Three days later Yasuho unearths the nameless man near the Wall Eyes; after a brief clash with Joshu he is hospitalized, escapes with Soft & Wet, and traces his hat to Kira's apartment. Taken in by the Higashikata family and given a new name, he begins investigating his past through the Higashikatas.

Kei Nijimura reveals that he is a fusion, and Karera Sakunami later supplies the name Josefumi Kujo. Along the way he battles Yotsuyu Yagiyama, outwits Jobin, avenges Damo's victims, and vows to cure Holy of the Rock Disease. Allied with the plant appraiser Rai Mamezuku, he confronts a string of Rock Humans from the Locacaca Organization, including Dolomite, Urban Guerrilla, Poor Tom, and Doctor Wu.

His Stand, Soft & Wet, plunders a target's properties into bubbles and can inject explosive bubbles into foes. During the final struggle against Wonder of U, he grasps that his bubbles are infinitely thin spinning lines and develops Soft & Wet: Go Beyond, invisible bubbles that bypass all logic to strike with an explosive Spin. With that power he mortally wounds Toru, ends the threat for good, and at last embraces his identity simply as Josuke Higashikata.
